WORKSHOP ON URBAN WASTEWATER COLLECTION, SUSTAINABLE URBAN DRAINAGE SYSTEMS AND URBAN FLOOD MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS IN THE MEKONG DELTA

On 10 May 2022, in Can Tho, the Workshop on Urban Wastewater Collection, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and Urban Flood Management Solutions in the Mekong Delta was co-organized by the Administration of Technical Infrastructure – Ministry of Construction (MoC) and GIZ in the framework of the Mekong Climate Resilience Programme (MCRP).
 
At the workshop, legal framework on drainage and wastewater management in Viet Nam was presented by representatives of MoC, especially for the urban centres and high-density residential areas. The participants from relevant departments of MoC, local authorities and departments from Mekong provinces discussed and agreed on the next steps for the implementation of wastewater tariff roadmaps and urban flood management. GIZ/MCRP introduced two innovative solutions such as: (1) SUDS- which was successfully piloted in some Mekong Delta’s region with the aim to scale up this model in other regions (2) the sponge city concept which will be supported to pilot in selected Mekong delta cities in upcoming time.
