Ca Mau city has been identified as one of the six integrated and specialized centers in the Mekong Delta region, together with other cities such as Tan An, My Tho, Long Xuyen, Rach Gia and Soc Trang.
On 17th August 2023, Ca Mau Province People’s Committee (PPC), in cooperation with GIZ Viet Nam through the Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Project (MCRP), organised a workshop on “The development of Ca Mau City to be an integrated and specialized center”. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Le Van Su - Vice Chairperson of Ca Mau PPC and was attended by representatives from some departments of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Construction, leaders of People’s Committees of some provinces and cities, directors of relevant departments of some Mekong provinces.

With the aim to clarify functions for Ca Mau city as an integrated and specialized center of Ca Mau Peninsula, the participants discussed four topics: (1) Infrastructure connectivity, (2) Ecotourism, (3) Seafood and (4) Climate change. The challenges and opportunities for Ca Mau city in each aspect were also discussed. In addition, the participants exchanged ideas and experiences on the outline, contents, and steps to develop the proposals.
MCRP project is supporting Ca Mau city in formulating the Proposal to transform Ca Mau city into an integrated and specialized center. The Proposal is expected to be submitted to the Government for approval in late 2023.
