As Vietnam’s urban areas rapidly expand, this Summit provided a vital platform for collaboration and developing actionable strategies for urban resilience and sustainability.
👉Through the Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Project (MCRP), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and GIZ Viet Nam continue to support the Vietnam Urban Forum annually. This year, MCRP contributed to the Thematic Conference Session 3, focusing on enhancing urban climate resilience towards sustainable development.
Discussions tackled strategies to address rising vulnerabilities like flooding, typhoons, and sea-level rise. The session also highlighted the role of urban greening and sustainable development as well as the enhancement of access to financing.
👉In his opening remarks, Dr. Patric Schlager – Team Leader on Urban and Infrastructure Development, MCRP – reaffirmed the strong commitment of both Germany and Switzerland to advancing sustainable urban development in Vietnam. He highlighted GIZ’s ongoing efforts, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and SECO, to drive innovative solutions for resilient, environmentally friendly, and green cities.
MCRP presented a case study on the application of sponge city models for flood water management in cities of the Mekong Delta.
