TRAINING WORKSHOP ON NATURAL DISASTER RISKS MANAGEMENT IN URBAN AND SUB-URBAN AREAS FOR THE 13 MEKONG DELTA PROVINCES



In the framework of the Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Project (MCRP), GIZ Viet Nam in collaboration with Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA), organized a training workshop on natural disaster risks management in urban and sub-urban areas for the 13 Mekong Delta provinces.

The workshop participants included individuals working in the field of community-based disaster risks management roles, specifically representatives from the Provincial Standing Committee on Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, Provincial Red Cross, Provincial Women’s Union.

There were two training series scheduled: the first, taking place from 02-06/10/2023 in Can Tho city (for participants from An Giang, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Hau Giang provinces and Can Tho city), and the second from 09-13/10/2023 in My Tho city (for participants from Tien Giang, Long An, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces).

After the training, participants acquired valuable knowledge in following areas:

☑️Enhanced understanding of Programme 553, as approved by the Prime Minister, and the latest information regarding natural disaster characteristics in the Mekong Delta;

☑️Proficiency in utilizing tools for assessing natural disaster risk management and climate-related risks;

☑️The ability to provide training on the community-based disaster risk management and climate change adaptation process while incorporating gender integration;

☑️Skills in preparing reports that assess natural disaster and climate change risks at the community level, along with the integration of disaster prevention and control content into the provincial socio-economic development plan.

In the coming time, these trainees will be the sources of trainers to support the provinces to continue to organize and conduct further training courses for district and commune-level officials with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the National Program on community-based natural disaster risk management and assessment for the Mekong Delta region.
