RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY RICE-SHRIMP FARMING MODEL FOR FARMERS IN CA MAU PROVINCE.



In the framework of activity promoting rice-shrimp value chain towards sustainability, the project “Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Programme - (MCRP/GIZ Viet Nam)  in collaboration with Commune People’s Committee of Bien Bach Dong (CPC), and Minh Phu Seafood Group organized an event “Green Sunday” at 6 La Cua Hamlet, Bien Bach Dong commune, Thoi Binh District, Ca Mau province (on 19/03/2023). Around 50 participations from the CPCs, the Youth Union, Farmer’s union, Women union, Veterans' association, and rice-shrimp cooperatives of Bien Bach Dong commune participated in the event.

The event integrated raising awareness for the community in protecting natural ecosystems and cleaning the environment according to the principles of environmentally friendly rice-shrimp farming practices. The sidelines activities of the event also attracted the attention and enthusiastic participation of local people such as collecting garbage and planting flowers on rural roads to build a green, clean, and beautiful environment-friendly lifestyle, aimed at towards organic farming areas in the future.

At the event, the MCRP project shared innovative technical points in the rice-shrimp farming model, enhancing the capacity for well-managed practices and efficient use of production inputs. In the context of climate change and saline intrusion in Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau, the sustainable rice-shrimp farming model is a suitable direction to promote agricultural production value chain, increase income, and stabilise local employment. Accordingly, in 2023, the rice-shrimp farming cooperatives will continue to promote production and increase output and income compared to 2022 (2022, increased by 25%-30% compared to 2021).
