Hanoi, on 16 November 2022, the Ministry of Construction in cooperation with the Central Party’s Economic Commission organized a conference on urban development with three thematic sessions: (1) Enhancing efficiency of urban planning towards sustainable development; (2) Infrastructure development and urban reconstruction; (3) Policies for urban development in Viet Nam.
The conference aimed at disseminating the objectives of the Politburo’s Resolution No.06-NQ/TW on Sustainable Master Planning, Construction, Management and Development of Urban Areas in Viet Nam until 2030, vision to 2045 and promoting the governmental action plan to implement Resolution 06.
The Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Programme (MCRP), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), implemented by GIZ, has accompanied the organisation of the conference. In addition, technical measures for climate-resilient urban development and results of interventions supported by SECO and GIZ were presented at the exhibition concurrently taking place as part of the event.
Speaking at the Conference on Infrastructure development and urban reconstruction, Mr. Werner Gruber – Head of Cooperation Office, Embassy of Switzerland in Viet Nam said, “Strengthening urban development planning and urban climate resilience is one of the key areas of Switzerland’s economic development cooperation in Viet Nam with the overall goal to foster sustainable economic growth.” He also shared his recommendations on five areas that Viet Nam should focus on to achieve successful sustainable urban development, namely climate resilience and green growth; capacity development and autonomy of local governments to plan, finance and manage urban infrastructure; land-use reform; effective and efficient provincial/city assets management, and effective vertical and horizontal coordination.
