30 delegates from Ca Mau DARD, Ca Mau Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Sub-Departments, Ca Mau Cooperative Alliance, Minh Phu Corp, district/commune People’s committee, and rice-shrimp cooperatives in Thoi Binh district participated and engaged in discussions to reach a consensus on crucial aspects such as the scope, location, scale and orientation for the feasibility study on rice-shrimp development in Thoi Binh district and agreed on the expected outputs of the feasibility study.
At the workshop, Dr. Cao Le Quyen, the leader of the consultation team, provided insights into the study’s objectives, methods, implementation plans, and shared preliminary results from the initial survey conducted in the rice-shrimp farming area of Bien Bach Dong commune, Thoi Binh district, which spans 3,000 hectares and encompasses 400 farms. Based on the initial survey findings, the consultation team identified three feasibility options for the sustainable development of rice-shrimp farming, taking into account the unique characteristics of the Bien Bach Dong commune.
Expressing his appreciation for the study’s objectives and the expected outcomes, Mr. Chau Cong Bang, Vice Director of Ca Mau DARD, express confidence that the study would successfully propose optimal feasibility options for the sustainable development of rice-shrimp farming in Ca Mau.

In the upcoming period, GIZ, with technical assistance of VIFEP, is committed to maintaining its collaboration with Ca Mau DARD to pursue the study’s activities, which are slated for completion by September 2024. The feasibility options proposed by the consultation team will play a pivotal role as the foundation for attracting investments from both the public and private sectors. The goal is to foster the sustainable development of rice-shrimp farming, not only within Ca Mau province but also extending to the broader Mekong Delta region.
