On 29-30/10/2021, the Directorate of Fisheries (D-FISH) in collaboration with GIZ within the framework of Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Programme (MCRP) organize a consultancy workshop on the National project “Environmental protection plan for fisheries in the period of 2021-2030”. This is one of the important projects prioritized in the Vietnam Fisheries Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The workshop was chaired by Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, D-FISH with the participation of 22 officials and experts in various fields.
While being a driver of environmental pollution, aquaculture production is also strongly affected by environmental pollution. The conversion from agriculture land and coastal mangroves to aquaculture can have severe impacts on natural ecosystems.
The workshop participants have discussed and agreed on ideas on the environmental protection plan for fisheries such as pollution control and prevention in fisheries; environmental incidents prevention and response; aquatic resources protection and development, preventing biodiversity loss; improving capacity on climate change adaptation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions; developing circular economic models and promoting the sustainable development of fisheries.
It is expected that the National scheme will soon be completed and submitted to the Government for approval in the first quarter of 2022.
