On 8th October 2020, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and GIZ co-organised the Workshop on Development of Fisheries Strategy to 2030, vision 2045. The Workshop was chaired by MARD to collect comments from relevant Government agencies for the development and orientation of Viet Nam's fisheries in the coming period.
The vision of the fisheries sector is to become an advanced industrial agriculture, integrating into the international economy with competitiveness and developing towards high quality, efficiency, and sustainability; to maintain its position in the top three countries in terms of seafood export value in the world; to continuously improve the lives of the fishermen community with a decent income to build a civilised fishing village society; and to ensure social security, effectively contributing to national sovereignty.
More than 100 representatives from central and local agencies participated in the workshop, who shared and contributed various initiatives, lessons learnt and opinions in Viet Nam’s fisheries management and development in the coming time. At the Workshop, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of MARD, requested the consultant group to review all comments, revise the draft of Fisheries Strategy to 2030, and proceed to organise the Consultation Workshop in the Mekong Delta. He also emphasised that the Fisheries Strategy should be realistic and focus on improving management capacity, applying 4.0 technology in production, preventing overexploitation and improving sustainability, proactively adapting and responding to environmental issues, and effectively coordinating with other relevant economic sectors.
The final draft of the Fisheries Strategy to 2030, vision 2045 will be submitted to the Government for consideration by MARD at the end of November 2020 for final comments before the Prime Minister signs for promulgation.
