The Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Project (MCRP), implemented by GIZ Viet Nam, co-financed by the Governments of Germany and Switzerland, has successfully implemented three sustainable urban drainage models (SUDS) in An Giang, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau provinces during the period of 2017-2019. It is expected that from now until 2025, MCRP will replicate this model in five urban areas in the Mekong Delta region. The replication of these models, which apply ecosystem-based adaptation solutions, has also been successfully carried out by GIZ under the framework of the Support Project for Viet Nam to Implement the Paris Agreement (SIPA) in Dong Hoi, Quang Binh province. Based on this, MCRP supports the organization of a Study Tour on Survey and Experience Exchange for representatives of the Departments of Construction from 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta region, representatives of provincial People's Committees, and representatives of Project Management Boards in the pilot cities to visit and work in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh province from 10-13 July 2023.

Feedback from the participants:

  • Mr. Le Hoa Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Hoi City, expressed that this event provided a valuable opportunity for cities' People's Committees to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and share experiences in areas such as planning management, urban development, local government permits, construction order management, and project management in the region.
  • Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trang, representing the Dong Thap Construction Department, found the trip highly beneficial. He emphasized the importance of connecting with colleagues from the delegation, as well as those from Quang Binh province and Dong Hoi city. Exploring a new environment enhanced his understanding and will contribute to his professional growth in the future.
  • Mr. Pham Hong Son, from the Can Tho Department of Construction, described the learning experience in the Mekong Delta as both meaningful and useful. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences. He also expressed the hope that GIZ would continue organizing similar trips in the future to further promote professional development.
