Building on successful training sessions in An Giang and Kiên Giang provinces earlier this year, MCRP recently conducted an advanced training on the Sponge City model. This session provided valuable tools and methodologies, including insights on the FAST- Infra Label - a global framework design to certify infrastructure projects with positive environmental and social impacts. This label supports developers and investors in identifying sustainable projects, attracting funding, and fostering long term benefits.
Insights from the participants and their perspectives on how the training will shape future projects:
- Mr. Tô Hoài Phương, Chairman of Ca Mau’s PPC, shared: “The sponge city model offers an innovative approach to urban drainage, designed to address climate change challenges. This training highlighted the urgency of adopting this model and selecting the right solutions—whether gray, green, or a combination of both. Effective implementation across the entire drainage basin is essential for consistent investment and management”
- Ms. Phạm Thị Minh Lành, a lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, stressed the need to analyze and propose effective investment solutions to encourage private sector involvement in implementing coordinated drainage solutions.
Since 2019, the MCRP has actively supported the implementation of climate-resilient urban infrastructure in the Mekong Delta. Currently, the project is collaborating with Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Kien Giang province to develop comprehensive Sponge City plans, paving the way for a resilient and sustainable urban future.
